A champion for a better future in Desnethé–Missinippi–Churchill River

Buckley Belanger was born in Ile a la Crosse, Saskatchewan. At a very young age, his mother passed away, and his stepmother, Molly, resumed care of him and his brothers and sisters.

After graduating high school in 1978, Buckley established a local radio and TV station in his hometown. Buckley then went to work in La Ronge for the Missinippi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) as a broadcaster and helped set up local radio and TV stations in several communities, including Cumberland House, La Loche, Beauval, and others.

Buckley returned home and was elected mayor of Ile a la Crosse at the age of 28, where he served three terms. In 1995, Buckley was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), representing our community in the Legislature until 2021. He has served in the Cabinet as Minister of Environment and Resource Management and Associate Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs.

Buckley is now working hard to earn your trust as the Liberal candidate for Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River, in order to bring the voice of our Northern community to Ottawa.

Buckley and his wife, Beckie, have three daughters, Michelle, Kellie, and Taylor. Their family is also blessed with six grandchildren, Meika, Brody, Nixon, Mila, Cooper, and Leo. Buckley and his wife continue to reside in Ile a la Crosse.
